La Vie en Rose

I came across some really beautiful fabric at the thrift shop the other day. It was actually a skirt that someone had disassembled for the fabric and it was made from the prettiest, silky purple floral fabric! This fabric makes lovely fabric roses and so I made a bundle of them to use in some jewelry creations. Here are the first two - both named "La Vie en Rose" and both made in the same theme using black lace fabric to offset the purple roses along with some amber/gold colored beads. Both are also available on Etsy. Enjoy! :)

Morning Coffee Quotes

"What quarrel, what harshness, what unbelief in each other can subsist in the presence of a great calamity, when all the artificial vesture of our life is gone, and we are all one with each other in primitive mortal needs?"
- George Eliot

- Carl Rogers

"In delay there lies no plenty."

"The popularity of disaster movies expresses a collective perception of a world threatened by irresistible and unforeseen forces which nevertheless are thwarted at the last moment. Their thinly veiled symbolic meaning might be translated thus: We are innocent of wrongdoing. We are attacked by unforeseeable forces come to harm us. We are, thus, innocent even of negligence. Though those forces are insuperable, chance will come to our aid and we shall emerge victorious."
- David Mamet

- C.S. Lewis

"People demand freedom of speech to make up for the freedom of thought which they avoid."

Photos from my gallery opening!

As some of you know, I had a gallery opening on Friday night. Before taking my stuff to the gallery, I worried about how to display it as this particular gallery space didn't have secure cases and the like. I came up with the idea of mounting the jewelry on canvases so they could be hung and I can't tell you how well it looked!! I was so pleased with how all of my work looked in the space. It garnered lots of admirers and I met some very nice people at the opening reception.

Dan & I met our parents at a brew pub for dinner before heading over to the show. Here are some shots from the night:

Boudoir Bag #1

Boudoir Bag in progress!

My friend Kristine came over the other day to work on some crafty stuff and we talked about what to do with my newest piece. After much debating, she came up with the idea of turning it into a bag! That is exactly what I did. So here we have "Boudoir Bag #1" still under construction but getting closer all the time! I made a simple lined body for the purse which opens at the top. The fringy fabric sculpture is attached to the front and it closes with a simple tie wrapped around one of the vintage buttons on the front. It still needs a shoulder strap.

Here are some shots of it - Enjoy! :)

This is a scrap of leather from my husband's old wallet!

"On some positions, Cowardice asks the question, 'Is it safe?' Expediency asks the question, 'Is it politic?' And Vanity comes along and asks the question, 'Is it popular?' But Conscience asks the question 'Is it right?'
